On February 24, 2025, the Department of Foreign Languages of the National Academy of Statistics, Accounting and Audit organized and conducted a meeting for higher education students within the framework of the project work of the student scientific society “SiCh” on the occasion of the National Day of Prayer for Ukraine and the International Ukrainian Language Day – an excursion into the secrets of anthroponymy “Ukrainian Surnames: From Past to Present – a Step Towards Preserving One’s Identity”. Tetiana Vintoniv – PhD, Associate Professor of the Ukrainian Language Department at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University, was invited to the meeting. They discussed the history of surnames as a defining socially conditioned human identifier that reaches the depths of their ancestry and is connected with their ethnonational affiliation.
It was interesting to learn about the origin and forced changes of Ukrainian surnames of prominent historical figures, as well as the formation of nicknames and call signs of our defenders.
We are sincerely grateful to Ms. Tetiana for the warm meeting and positive emotions!
We wish everyone creative inspiration and the soonest Victory for our beloved Ukraine!
Event moderator – Nataliia Didenko PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages.
